HEALTHY FOOD SUBSTITUIONS

INGREDIENT SUBSTITUTION

Bacon                                     Lean Ham

Baking chocolat (1 sq)          3 tbsp cocoa 1 tbsp virgin olive oil

Bouillion                                  Reduced sodium broth

Butter                                      Reduce use by 1/3

Cheese                                     Part skim or light cheese

Cottage cheese                        Low-Fat cottage cheese

Cream  Cheese                        Low-Fat Cream Cheese

Cream                                       Skim Milk

Coconut                                     Dried Fruit

Egg                                             Egg substitute

Evaporated milk                       Evaporated skim milk 

Fruit in syrup                            Fruit packed in own juice

Garlic salt                                   Fresh garlic 

Ground beef                               Ground round

Ground turkey                           93% ground turkey

Ice Cream                                   Fat-free ice cream

                                                      Sherbet

                                                      Fat free frozen yogurt

Marinades, bottled                     Fruit, Veg Juices

Mayonnaise                                 Reduced-calorie, fat free

Onion Salt                                    Onion Powder

Pie Crust                                      Vanilla wafer, graham cracker

Salt                                               Reduce or use sea salt

                                                      Replace with herbs 

Soups                                            Reduced fat soups

Sour Cream                                 Low fat or fat-free

Soy Sauce                                     Reduced Sodium Soy Sauce

Sugar                                             Splenda, or reduce by 1/3

Oil packed Tuna                           Water packed Tuna

Whole Buttermilk                         Skim Buttermilk

Whole Milk                                     1% or Skim Milk

2% Cottage Cheese                        1% or Fat Free

Ricotta Cheese                                Skim Milk Ricotta Cheese

Worcestershire Sauce                    Reduced Sodium

Yogurt                                              Low Fat, Fat Free Yogurt 

 Ketchup                                           Use tomato paste, lemon

                                                            and a sweetener
