WELCOME TO HEALTHY RECIPES FOR HEALTHY LIVING

We welcome you to our site, and with pleasure, we wish to provide you with healthy, hearty, home made, handed down recipes, some old, some new; definitely updated, for example, using healthy herbs and spices can eliminate the need for salt and so much sugar!

Our recipes use fresh vegetables, fresh fruit – and we recommend you use organic foods as often as possible, organically grown meats with no antibiotics given, and farm fresh chickens’ eggs, that have tasted no other than the best foods themselves, organic and pesticide free. And please, NO FARMED FISH - it will spoil your taste forever for fish. Break out the Fly Rod and go fishing or fin a friend who loves to fish.  Seafood must be fresh, or fresh-frozen. Canned only in a pinch!

Pick the best foods only for Healthy Recipes for Healthy Living. Much of the time we are afraid to use herbs and spices, as we do not think the family would like the “taste.” But, if you get to know how to use them you may surprise yourself ….you may really like them!

My Dad was a warrior in the kitchen – so we tried and tested of almost every herb he had available to him. He grew his own and I learned the use of so many simple, but very special herbs that I made dishes delightful, even as a child and as I grew up, carried that into my cooking and baking.

Mum taught me how to make pies, cookies, loaves, and many soul soups as well. Her favorite chicken noodle soup would take any cold away. The word ‘diet’ is a fearful one to many. And the honest truth is, many diets do not work. If we get used to eating the healthy way, we may live a longer healthy life.

1. Eat fibrous foods for good digestion.

2. Eat a combination of complex carbohydrates, as in whole grains, legumes, vegetables (potatoes) and some fruits that are complex carbohydrates such as bananas.

3. Eat a variety of healthy raw vegetables

4. Always use whole wheat products

5. Always eat a variety of dark skinned fruits, as “purple reigns”; avoid sugar, use honey or Splenda sugar replacement instead.

6. Eat vegetables 5 -7 servings a day.

7. Use healthy oils, such as olive oil, grape seed oils, instead of animal fats. Avoid unhealthy hydrogenated fats such as margarine and use butter very sparingly.

8. Combine with 6 – 8 glasses of pure fresh water daily.

9. Try healthy snack every two hours; a small box of raisins, 2-3 prunes, an apple or almonds (10 per day) to keep body PH and glycemic index (sugar).

* drink good wines moderately 1 or 2 glasses per day (not the kids please).

Realizing, of course, there are always variants to why people are not healthy, even if they eat correctly, we at Healthy Recipes for Healthy Living shall do our very best to provide you with many very interesting, flavorful, healthy foods, using herbs as much as possible, in most every category we are able to.

We want to put a sparkle in your eyes, remove a notch or two from the waistline, always remembering:

PORTION SIZE & DRINK FRESH PURE WATER 6 – 8 GLASSES PER DAY!

AND: REMEMBER TO EXERCISE 30 MINUTES PER DAY – YOUR CHOICE, WALKING TREADMILL WHATEVER WORKS FOR YOU.

Happy Recipe Hunting!

I wanted to update this reading to advise you of the role of protein in the Anti-Inflammatory Diet, from the readings of Dr. Andrew Weil, MD and his infamous book “Healthy Aging”.

Dr Weil recommends:

* “Eat less meat and poultry, and other foods of animal origin.”

* “Eat more vegetable protein: soy foods, other legumes (beans, lentils), whole grains, seeds and nuts.”

* “If you eat fish, choose only varieties and sources that are likely to carry the fewest toxic contaminants.”

PS: We will be adding to these recipes on a consistent basis so keep checking in on us.
